Solange Ain’t Fuckin Around

Solange is comin hard, folks!

I loves everything about this clip, man.  The song is straight fire.  The 70s-ish visuals.  Solange having a good time, but not so serious as to be self-important.

Solange’s music works because it is so melodically strong and arranged beautifully.  She is so clearly unconcerned with being trendy, but she’s not self-indulgent with her music.  This shit is definitely accessible.

Now she’s just having a good time making interesting, visually appealing videos.

Her album is the one album I cannot wait for.  Based on the two singles (Sandcastle Disco and I Decided) and two other leaked tracks (Champagne Chronic Nightcap and White Picket Dreams), I think that this could be the best pop soul record of the year.

Bravo, ma!

  1. Thanks for posting this because I’m sooo gonna download some of her songs.

  2. I’m on board.
She’s got what her sister doesnt have right now, something she has always struggled with, dicipline. B’day had magnificent moments ( resentment) but was so slapdash, so do-it-yourself, so disdainful of order that it radiated mess. This and “I decided” are tighter than two toes in a sock. When does it come out. ( a nigga might come out of retirement)
( on second thought, I wont. Can I review it here?

I was living in Houston when Solange’s first album came out and I liked her style much more that B’s…I am looking forward to this album as well! YAYEE YAYEE!

Yeah, she was gaining some good ground with me already (which is truly saying something), but once I heard this track and saw the video, I’m down for the chick. She definitely has something that her sister lacks. What it is, though, I’m not sure. Maybe it’s personality. Maybe it’s the way she handles her sound rather than letting it be handled. I don’t know, but whatever it is she needs to keep it up.

  5. I just heard “tony”. she dug in the crates and went all Wes Montgomery on motherfuckers.

So I bought the album yesterday($6.98 at Target – they really want a million sales the first week hunh, lol) and you are so right. I love this cd. Solange is really killing it and there are no tracks that I do not enjoy. With that said, I am so excited to hear from Jazzmine Sullivan and Robin Thicke …
