Nelsan Ellis, ladies and gentleman…

…the only reason to watch HBO’s True Blood.

This 1:30 is the most beautiful, intricately performed representation of black gayness ever put on television.

Nelsan Ellis’ work here is meticulous.  Watch this a few times and see how the feminine gives way to the masculine and vice versa.  There is fluidity here that destroys the binary oppositional frame around which we construct black gayness.

Ellis makes Lafayette feminine and masculine, and yet somehow neither.

Don’t sleep.
